Our Story

Women In Need Gaining Strength or W.I.N.G.S. was founded on the premise that no woman should have to fight the battle against cancer alone and thru the comfort, faith and encouragement of others strength can be given to those in need.  Especially those who may not have the ability to acquire the necessary medical help needed. W.I.N.G.S. can help with the cost of mammograms, office visit and gas cards to local women in need. We have partnered with Anderson County Hospital in Garnett KS to provide mammograms.  W.I.N.G.S also helps any local person with cancer with gas cards to help with cost of driving to treatments.

W.I.N.G.S. came to fruition when, after beating her own fight with cancer Deb McMahon felt compelled to help others as they waged their own battle. She along with her sister Michelle, also a cancer survivor, started their philanthropic efforts with the W.I.N.G.S. motorcycle ride in 2006.   They have also added an annual Walk a Mile In Her Shoes - 5K Fun Run/Walk held every October at the North Lake in Garnett. The biggest fundraiser is "W.I.N.G.S. Wednesday's every October. Shirts purchased and worn every Wednesday in October.

This story does not end here it just keeps growing with each new person we are able to help, or the new friend that we meet.  W.I.N.G.S. would not be possible if it wasn't for the people who have embraced a small town girls dream and believed in what we are doing.
